A PENARTH councillor has welcomed road safety improvements at the junction between Cliff Hill and Marine Parade.

The works, which are due to start on Monday (February 9), aim to reduce vehicle speeds and help pedestrians cross the roads.

The scheme will involve the removal of the existing bolt down kerbs and replacing with new Conservation kerbs and footway paving slabs to formalise the temporary layout.

Additional junctions builds-outs will also be constructed on either side of the junction, with uncontrolled dropped kerb crossing points also added to all four junctions. The roundabout is also set to removed and replaced with a traffic island

Councillor Maureen Kelly Owen, who represents the Plymouth ward, said: "I'm thrilled that the landscape and road safety improvements planned when the one way system was first initiated are to take place in the coming weeks and in time for the holiday season."

The construction phase of the works is scheduled to start on site from Monday, February 9, for a period of approximately six weeks subject to any unforeseen circumstances and suitable weather conditions. The works will be blocked off to prevent access by the general public.

During the construction a certain amount of traffic disruption may occur along Cliff Hill and Marine Parade in the immediate vicinity of the works, but every effort will be made to keep this disruption to an absolute minimum, and all pedestrian and vehicle accesses will be maintained.

Improvements are also set to be made to the Cliff Top car park following the removal of the recycling site that was previously based there.
