LOCAL residents welcomed the relaunch of the Dinas Powys Community Cinema last weekend.
A large appreciative audience came to see the film ‘Pride’, described as a historical comedy drama, at the cinema.
Starring Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton it tells the story of a group of gay activists who decided to help striking miners in Onllwyn in the Swansea Valley in 1984.
The event also celebrated the new projection equipment that had been funded in part by Creative Rural Communities and by Dinas Powys Community Council. Councillor Keith Hatton, vice chairman of the council, was guest of honour on the day.
There is a monthly film showing at the cinema, with ‘What we did on our holiday’ showing on February 14, ‘Mr Turner’ showing on March 14, and a children's matinee of Paddington showing on April 11.
For other showings doors open at 6.30pm for 7pm.

John Fanshaw, on behalf of the Community Cinema, said he was delighted that the relaunch of the club had been such a success and looked forward to more great films.
The audience appreciated the bar, which was run by Judith Anderson and her team of volunteers.
