A LONG serving shoe mending couple and a street cleaner have won the Outstanding Citizens Award.
Julie and Michael Spencer and Rick Mountjoy were presented with this year's awards by Penarth town mayor councillor Mike Cuddy on Thursday, February 9.
Mr and Mrs Spencer run Spencers Shoe Repairs on Windsor Terrace.
The Outstanding Citizens Award seeks to recognise a particular contribution to the well being of Penarth.
They have run their business for over 22 years and cllr Cuddy spoke of their popularity in the town and how they had provided a valued service to many Penarthians.
Mr Mountjoy was recognised as he is a familiar face in the town and has cleaned the streets for many years.
He was awarded for becoming a fundamental part of the community
Councillor Cuddy said he was "delighted" to present both Mr and Mrs Spencer and Mr Mountjoy with framed certificates.
Both had come highly recommended to receive the awards as nominated by members of the public.
The Outstanding Citizens Award seeks to recognise particular contribution to the well-being of Penarth.
A spokeswoman for the council said: "Penarth Town Council extends its gratitude to all three for their valued efforts in helping our community."
