RESIDENTS in St Andrews Major and Dinas Powys are being given the opportunity to view plans of Dwr Cymru Welsh Water’s £800,000 investment scheme.
The scheme, which involves renewing 7 kilometres of water mains in the village, will begin on Monday 15 September and will be completed by February 2009.
Once complete, the work will ensure that customers continue to receive a top quality supply of drinking water direct to their taps.
As part of its ongoing commitment to keep customers informed Welsh Water is holding a public exhibition. This will be held on Wednesday 10 September from 5pm - 7pm in the Parish Hall, Britway Road, Dinas Powys, CF46 4AF. Local residents are being sent letters advising them of the exhibition information.
The exhibition will detail plans for the work and will enable local people to discuss the work with members of the project team.
Welsh Water capital manager Peter Childs said: “We have arranged this public exhibition so that anyone who is interested in finding out more information about the scheme can come along. We will be issuing information packs to all those who will be directly affected by the work. We urge customers to keep this information in a safe place to refer to whilst work is carried out in the area.
“We would like to thank customers in advance of carrying out this work for their cooperation. We hope that they will bear with us whilst this essential investment work is undertaken.”
Through planning of the scheme Welsh Water has liaised closely with representatives from the Vale of Glamorgan Council and various other bodies.
Mr Childs added: “We would like to assure customers that work to upgrade the water mains in the area will be done with the least amount of disruption as possible to their water supplies.”
The scheme will be delivered by Laing O’Rourke, working with United Utilities, ChandlerKBS and other partners carrying out the water mains refurbishment programme on behalf of Welsh Water.
Welsh Water is investing heavily and working hard to ensure top quality services to all its communities in Wales. The company is investing £1.2 billion in its water and sewerage network between 2005 and 2010.
It is a not-for-profit company with the sole objective of providing top quality services for its customers. Welsh Water does not have shareholders, and any profits made are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers, as well as for returning to customers as ‘dividends’. The customer dividend for 2008/9 is £21 for each customer receiving both water and wastewater services.
