Mad and bad

SINCE reading the ‘Delays Ahead?’ article in the Penarth Times (August 21), I have been trying to think of an appropriate response to the utter madness of the Vale Council in allowing major works to take place by Welsh Water in the centre of Penarth.

This will inevitably cause disruption and delays to the long suffering residents of Penarth, and anyone using Penarth to travel west to Cardiff.

Is there anybody in the council co-ordinating any of this and looking at the combined effect of having two major projects, effectively causing disruption, on the only two routes from Penarth to Cardiff at the same time?

I cannot comment on whether the work to be undertaken by Welsh Water is necessary or not – one has to assume that the appropriate experts have evaluated the situation and that it is.

But does it have to take place now?

Why can it not wait for six months, or is it asking for too much joined-up thinking by the council to give planning approval, on the condition that work does not commence until the completion of work at the Merrie Harrier junction?

Come on Vale of Glamorgan Council – I have seen the responses from council officers in the Penarth Times defending past actions that have been criticised by the residents of Penarth.

But can you wonder at why you are held in such low esteem in many residents’ eyes, when this type of action is even contemplated to take place at this point in time?

Come on elected members of the council, apply some pressure, so that these proposed works are re-scheduled to take place at a more appropriate time.
