I WAS surprised and rather disappointed by Cllr Sophie Williams' letter in last week's Penarth Times (August 28).
First of all she was making a political point about the scheduling of works.
If she had contacted me she would have been aware that I told Welsh Water that any works before Christmas would be a disaster for the town.
Secondly she made a remark about my attendance at these two meetings.
Indeed I was away, in common with many of the town's people, for most of August – since this is regarded as the recess month as far as the council is concerned.
I requested that the meetings concerned with Welsh Water occurred at a date when maximum participation could occur – unfortunately this could not happen owing to the urgency of the work.
Subsequent to Cllr Williams' letter, I have met the director of Economic and Environmental regulation who is conducting an investigation as to the lack of information concerning the commencement date of works, which could have been told to councillors and the Penarth Times.
Cllr Williams, I hold you and your political party responsible for this lack of information as you are the ruling party on both Penarth Town and Vale of Glamorgan Councils.
I will endeavour to make available all relevant information and will fight hard for the town centre and its people, so that the works occur with a minimal amount of disruption, to the traders, employees, residents and visitors to our town, if these works are absolutely necessary.
