CARDIFF Bus is helping outdoor enthusiasts from Penarth to explore the Brecon Beacons with the launch of its Brecon Bus this summer.

From Sunday, May 25, Cardiff Bus will operate a service from Cardiff to Brecon every Sunday and bank holiday Monday until September 28.

Stopping in Merthyr Tydfil, Storey Arms, Brecon and Abergavenny, the service is being put on for those wishing to escape the city for the countryside.

The bus is also equipped with a bike trailer with space for 24 bikes for cyclists wishing to ride the Taff Trail or enjoy one of the Beacon’s 14 single track mountain bike routes.

The Brecon Beacons National park welcomes 4.15m visitors a year including walkers, runners, cyclists, mountain bikers, horse riders and wildlife-watchers.

Gareth Stevens, business development manager at Cardiff Bus, said: “The summer months are an ideal time to visit everything the Brecon Beacons has to offer. Our Brecon bus service is an ideal way to get there, whether you fancy a good walk in the hills, a hike up to the top of Corn Du or Pen y fan, a cycle ride in some stunning scenery or just enjoying a bit off sightseeing.

“With the Brecon Jazz Festival taking place in August and the Abergavenny Food Festival in September, the service is ideal for those wanting a car-free day out.”

One-way and return fares are available to purchase from the driver on the day and via its customer service centre in Leckwith and Cardiff Central Library.

Bike spaces cost £10 and must be booked and paid for in advance by emailing bikebus@cardiffbus.com or by calling 02920 666444.
