Penarth 3
Swansea 2nds 0
PENARTH maintained their challenge to Howardians in the Premier 1 South Wales Hockey League, winning 3-0 against Swansea 2nds at home in Leckwith.
Swansea started the game with only ten players so it was always going to be difficult for them against the Champions. Penarth played well in the first half moving the ball quickly around the pitch.
They went into an early lead through Kate Morgan, and she scored her second sniping goal half way through the first half. Penarth sealed their win in the second half with Caryl James scoring to ensure the three points.
Bridie Davies continued to show her worth in the centre of the pitch with another man-of-the-match performance.
Penarth 2nds 2
UWIC 7
UWIC 1st team were too strong for Penarth 2nds, even though Penarth took an early lead. Jane Humpage scored from the right side of the circle into the far corner of the goal to put Penarth ahead, after good pressure on the UWIC back four as they tried to switch the play.
UWIC soon equalised and scored 4 goals in quick succession in the first half to put the game out of Penarth¹s reach.
Penarth came back with a strike from Rachel Atwell which was deflected in by ex-UWIC player Naomi Edwards. UWIC went on in the second half to further stretch their lead and win convincingly 7-2.
Penarth 3rds 4
Kington 0
Penarth 3rds had an excellent 4-0 win against Kington away in Llandrindod Wells on Sunday.
They went two 2-0 up in the first half and secured the win in the second half. The goals came from Sarah Farrell (2), Laura Charlton and Hayley Ford.
It was a good weekend for Hayley Ford, playing for the Penarth 1st team for the first time and being player of the match in this game for the 3rd team.
