Discipline from Dinas at last

7:20am Thursday 20th November 2008

Cardiff Corries 0

Dinas Powys 3

Welsh League Division 1

THIS was a good all-round disciplined performance from Dinas, and the scoreline does not flatter them in any way in fact the margin could have been a lot wider.

On a heavy but flat pitch it was the hosts who got the first shot in, Chris Golton saving a Rhys Yates shot.

The pace and skill of Jacob Daley and David Brooks soon began to cause the Corries defence problems, both getting in early crosses from the bye-line with no-one able to get on the end of them.

The hosts had three successive corners on the 15 minute mark but the Dinas defence stood firm.

David Brooks, looking a class act, fed a through ball to Liam Beattie and his shot brought a good save from Mike Lewis.

Brooks was then upended just outside the box, the referee showing Sam Jacobson the yellow card, and Geza Hajgato's subsequent free kick curled just wide of the upright.

Dinas finally got the breakthrough a minute before the interval, Jacob Daley dispossessing the centre half to fire home off the goalpost.

The visitors were soon on the attack again in the second half, Jacob Daley causing panic in the home defence before Liam Beattie's shot was deflected for an unproductive corner.

Ebony Dixon should have done better when he found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot was wide and, with legs tiring on the heavy pitch, Dinas manager Mark Jones replaced Dixon with Richard Lane 20 minutes into the half.

After a spell of Corries pressure and a goalmouth scramble, Dinas got the all-important second goal with 15 minutes remaining Jacob Daley hooking the ball into the path of Liam Beattie who lobbed the advancing keeper for 2-0.

Daley was replaced by Jonathan Matthews after falling awkwardly.

Corries were then reduced to 10 men after Ashley Murray was dismissed for a second bookable offence, and the Villagers made the game safe as Matthews got on the end of a cross from the left to fire home from five yards for his first goal for the club.

The hard working Nathan Hosgood was then replaced by Dale Gardener to see out the final minutes, with a David Brooks free kick almost adding to the tally - but Lewis made a fine save as the referee brought proceedings to an end.

This was the first of eight consecutive away fixtures for Dinas and their travels take them to Caerleon next Saturday.
