THE girls have been performing well in Football.
The U16 girls Football team played Cowbridge in the County semi finals of the Welsh Cup.
Despite missing their usual goalkeeper, the girls won 6-2 with goals from Amy Wathan, Emily Jellings, Bethan Daw, Lauren McCarthy and Rachel Hignett.
At times their team play was sublime.
The U14 girls also faced Cowbridge in their semi final.
They were 2-0 up with an awesome goal from Rachel Hignett. That was followed up by a goal from Hannah Foat.
Cowbridge then got back to 2-2 but Chanelle McIlroy scored the vital winner in extra time to make it 3-2 to St Cyres.
The Year 7 team had their first football games. They beat Fitzalan 5-1 with a hatrick from Demi White.
Lauren Bailey and Leah Cunningham were superb in midfield as was Jessica Hobbs in goal.
They then faced a very strong Whitchurch side that capitalised on our defensive changes beating St Cyres 6-0. All three teams are now through to the last sixteen in Wales.
Tennis has continued for the U13 boys and girls at St Cyres as they qualified for the regional knockout.
The boys had a bye into the 2nd round where they had to face Basseleg who have a tennis academy at their school.
Alex Vowles, Matt Hall, Zakkiy Azeez lost their singles but Adam Roberts won his.
Both pairings lost in the doubles but acquitted themselves well.
The girls U13 tennis who had already beaten Caerleon in the first round with wins for Ellen Mahenthiralingam and Megan Evans as well as Rachel Hignett and Dana Yee who both had tough games.
They then went on to beat Brynteg with Dana Yee, Rachel Hignett, Leah Cunningham and Corrie Driscoll all winning their singles.
Megan and Ellen lost in their doubles but played well against a strong pairing.
The girls then qualified for the National Quarter Finals at Bath University. They faced Pate Grammar School from Gloucestershire.
Rachel Hignett won her singles 6-0, Dana lost 6-3, Leah lost 6-1 and Corrie lost 6-0.
Rachel and Dana won their doubles but Leah and Corrie lost in a hard fought game. The girls did extremely well to get to this stage of the competition.
The Year 8 Hockey team have continued their unbeaten record this season with a 2-1 win against Cowbridge.
In difficult conditions the team adapted well.
Rachel Hignett, Michell Ball and Ffion Gould dominated the midfield.
Chanelle McIlroy, Jessica Walton, Eden Mules and Maryam Chaudhary were superb going forward and the defence of Ffion Thomas, Dana Yee, Megan Evans, Georgia James and Caomhie Wingren were solid in defence.
