ST JOSEPHS 1
SULLY SPORTS 3
RECENT visits to Maes y Coed Road have not been successful for Sully Sports - but this blood and thunder South Wales Senior League Bruty Cup tie had it all.
With some crunching tackles from both teams and excellent goals, Sports adapted well to the very narrow pitch, with "over the hill" front pairing of Richard Yarr and the fit again Spencer Lamb creating the better early chances.
After 25 minutes Sports had a free kick on the edge of the box and with all expecting a shot Spencer Lamb chipped a perfect pass for Anthony Ferguson to fire past the keeper.
Within minutes a set piece saw well over the hill Captain Adam Govier heading on for Lee Baldock to head past the keeper.
With the home team rattled Sports went into the break with a deserved lead.
The second half saw the Sully defence under pressure and a fine save from Damian Lack proved important, as minutes later Sully increased their lead when Lee Baldock beat the full back and squared the ball for the incoming Mark Brown who made no mistake.
The Sully defence had weathered the St Joes' backlash but were unlucky when Adam Govier was struck on the arm.
The resultant penalty was converted and the Joes gave their all until the final whistle.
A job well done with a fine team effort for Sports.
This Saturday Sully travel to Beddau, where the in-form Cwm Welfare will really test their metal, leaving the Tyny at 12.15 pm.

ST ATHAN 5
Another poor result for the Vale Premier League team as a depleted squad took the field with back up from the Youth team.
Only one goal down at the break, Sully had been the better team, but as the game went on St Athan took control and ended worthy winners.
Hopefully some of the unavailable players will be up for a game at Cogan in the Barry Cup this Saturday.
SULLY SPORTS YOUTH 12
HEATH PARK RANGERS 0
Heath Park were the visitors to Sully last Sunday where they were up against a home side that have been playing some great attacking football this season in the South Wales Youth league.
Sully came out of the blocks quickly and were two up within ten minutes with Tayvian Ludvigson scoring the two from some good passing and through balls by the midfield who were dominating the game right from the start.
Heath Park were struggling with the strong attacking skills of the Sully wide players who were stretching them down both sides and by the end of the first half Sully were 4-0 up with Alex Gilfin and Daniel Aeyad adding their names to the score sheet.
The second half saw Sully knocking the ball around with loads of confidence, and although the Heath side defended valiantly, they could not stop the Sully goals from piling in the net with some good headers and great shots coming from all angles at the keeper who, to his credit, played quite well.
Sully goals in the second half came from Tayvian, completing his hat trick, then a fourth, another by Daniel then Ryan Boyles and Anthony Jones one-a-piece with defenders Jake Flynn 1 and Jacob Constant 2 finding themselves on the score sheet to complete a 12-0 win.
To their credit Heath Park never gave up and tried right to the final whistle playing the game in a good competitive spirit.
SULLY SPORTS GIRLS
On Sunday 30th November the Sully Under 16's girls team travelled to Aberdare with only 10 players due to illness in the squad.
They weren't looking forward to it as it was bitterly cold and they thought that by being short of players they would definitely be at a disadvantage.
How wrong they were.
Within the first 20 minutes they were up 5-0 and by half time this was extended to 9-0, despite some valiant efforts made by the Aberdare girls who were constantly putting pressure on Sully.
But they faced a strong defence under new captain Maddie Declaire and just weren't able to get the ball through the Sully line.
Gemma Healy was very strong in midfield and was constantly on the attack and pushing the ball up the field towards the opposition goal, allowing her team mates to take advantage and score goals.
Despite some good defending from Aberdare the end result was Sully 15 Aberdare 0.
The goal scorers were Nicole Bartol 7, Hannah Moger 3, Molly Chapman 2 & Chloe Jones 3.
Manager Joe X from Malta, who is not used to the cold, said: "As I was getting bluer with the cold the girls were getting redder from all the running around due to a shortage of players.
"At least they stayed warm, I am very proud of them!"
