LLANISHEN U13s 24
DINAS POWYS U13s 17
DINAS Powys Under 13s were on the road last Sunday, away to Llanishen, and took with them their unbeaten record for what was going to be a tough encounter.
Liam Driscoll returned to the scrum half berth allowing Matthew Leyshon to return to full back. With 18 players available for selection the coaches had more options than in previous weeks.
The home side were first to score with quick hands through their backs for their left wing to cross after 9 minutes.
This early setback spurred Dinas into action and with the forward charge being led by Lane Dyer the response was quick and calculated.
The visitors made good ground and were awarded a penalty 10 yards out from the try line. The ball moved to Aaran James for him to cross to level the scores at 5-5.
Dinas applied good pressure in the Llanishen half for a further 10 minutes in an attempt to take the lead but were thwarted by the resilient home defence who turned defence into attack to score on the stroke of half time to lead 12-5 at the break.
It took 10 minutes in the second half for the home side to score in the right hand corner, to lead 19-5.
With 6 minutes left to play a further 3 tries were to follow. First, on the Llanishen 10 yard line, advantage was being played by the referee (who incidentally had a blinder) when the lively Jordan Leyshon took the ball blindside, drew the winger and released right winger Izaac Farrag to score close to the posts 19-12.
Llanishen then capitalised 2 minutes later increasing their lead to 24-12.
With seconds left on the clock, Izaac Farrag made a good run and went on to score in the right hand corner to close the gap to 24-17.
This last flourish was not enough to win the match and Llanishen just edged it.
All good things must come to an end and the experience gained in their previous seven wins on the trot should prove to be invaluable.
Heads up lads, the rugby this season has been fantastic and brilliant to watch!
Training on the Common this Sunday, December, 7, starting at 10.30am.
Match to be arranged for Sunday, December 14, followed by a skittles match in the club, Under 13 players versus Under 14 players at 1.30pm.
