VALE Council have reassured parents of pupils in the Vale that processes are in place to protect their children after the tragic events that have unfolded in Ammanford.
Police remain at the scene of Ysgol Dyffryn Aman today, April 25, after the school was locked down yesterday, Wednesday, April 24 after a stabbing took place between pupils at the school.
Two pupils and a teacher who were taken to hospital with stab wounds have now been discharged Dyfed Powys Police say.
Here in the Vale, the council has explained what processes and procedures are in place to protect pupils of the county after the shocking set of events.
A Vale spokesperson said: “All school entrance points are locked during the school day, with access controlled via an intercom system.
“Visitors are met and have to sign in at reception before entering the wider school site.
“Staff must undergo a comprehensive set of checks before beginning their employment, while schools work with the council’s safeguarding team and South Wales Police to put lockdown procedures in place.
“Staff and pupils are all made aware of this process, which can involve them remaining inside classrooms and other safe spaces in the event of a serious incident.
“Regular safeguarding and health and safety visits also take place at schools, with site security addressed as part of these sessions.”

A teenage girl has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The school is closed today to allow police to continue their investigations.
Message from the head teacher at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, Ammanford
James Durbridge, head teacher at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, described yesterday as “a very difficult day for the school”.
“It goes without saying that my thoughts are with the three individuals and their families, who have been affected by [yesterday’s] incident,” he said.
“In the immediate aftermath of the incident, our priority was to ensure the security of pupils and staff whilst managing the situation and communicating with those directly impacted. Working with the police we issued communication as soon as feasibly possible.
“To support Dyfed Powys Police, the school will be closed [on Thursday] to all pupils and staff in order for officers to further carry out their investigations.”
Hero teacher praised for restraining girl in Ysgol Dyffryn Aman stabbing incident
A heroic teacher reportedly restrained a teenage girl in an armlock after two other teachers and a pupil were stabbed at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman on Wednesday.
Darrel Campbell – a teacher who is said to be the chairman of a local rugby club – reportedly entered the fray, disarmed the alleged attacker and put her in an armlock ahead of emergency services arriving.
He is said to not have been harmed during the incident.
