THE Rotary Club of Dinas Powys has sponsored a young man to take part in a five-day course, aimed at promoting leadership in young people.
Tomos Fazackerley recently joined other 16 and 17 year olds at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) course in the Brecon Beacons, taking part in the event designed for those about to start work or enter higher education who have been identified as showing leadership potential.
Participants were put into groups to take part in outdoor activities in challenging situations, to help develop leadership and team bonding skills and to increase personal confidence.
All students took it in turns to lead their team on a set activity, with Tomos taking the senior role in caving. His responsibilities included explaining the tasks and ensuring that other members of the group were aware of any health and safety issues.
"The course was enjoyable and good fun and I would like to thank Dinas Rotary Club for allowing me to attend," said Tomas.
"I had a great time. I chose caving as the activity that I would lead my group on – but I also really enjoyed gorge walking."
The Rotary Club of Dinas Powys would like to pass on its thanks to all the instructors and staff at Storey Arms Centre, who hosted the course.
