FROM the Archive this week features an image of the lily pond in The Knap, Barry.
Around the time this postcard was sent in the 1950s Barry Corporation had acquired most of the land adjoining the sea.
The old harbour having been handed over by the British Railway Executive to the council by 1958.
The Council Entertainments Committee spared no effort in providing relaxation and events in pleasant surroundings like at the beautiful Knap Gardens.
Barry Borough Council also invited tenders for concessions at Whitmore Bay and The Knap which included selling newspapers, taking photographs that were for sale, allowing the photographer to erect a small kiosk and placing weighing machines on The Knap.
How times have changed, but I think Barry would benefit today if it had an entertainments committee.
The Barry & District News would like to thank Cllr Shirley Hodges for the photograph and information.
If you have an old Barry photograph you would like to see included, with information about what it depicts, email sha@barryanddistrictnews.co.uk
