GREECE is aiming to reopen its borders by mid-May in a boost for UK holidaymakers.

Visitors will be required to have been vaccinated, had a recent negative Covid-19 test or have coronavirus antibodies, he explained.

TUI has announced it is cancelling all holidays from the UK until mid-May amid ongoing coronavirus restriction across the country.

The first flight from Cardiff Airport to Greece is on May 17 - the earliest date TUI said is the earliest possible date its flights may resume. 

A statement on the Cardiff Airport website says: "Cardiff Airport remains in close dialogue with the Welsh Government and Public Health Wales on COVID-19 testing on arrival into Wales. 

"As such we will support and facilitate the new UK-wide pre-travel destination testing regime when the next international passengers arrive.

"As a vital part of the transport infrastructure in Wales it is essential that the Airport remains open, as we have done throughout the pandemic, for legitimate air movements including cargo, essential flights, and to facilitate sports team travel.

"We continue to follow the guidance in place keeping the safety and security of our team and customers our number one priority.”

For any customers who can no longer fly we will continue to refund car parking and executive lounge bookings that were made directly on the Cardiff Airport website. For any enquiries regarding flights and holidays then customers should contact the relevant airline, tour operator or travel agent."

What are the rules for going on holiday?

Mr Drakeford told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that he hoped tourism would be open to people from outside of Wales by the summer, if the Covid situation continues to improve.

"At Easter time, Welsh people will be able to travel for holidays over Easter within Wales, and to self-contained accommodation," Mr Drakeford said.

"The rules in England will not permit that. The Prime Minister's roadmap says that for the weeks after March 29, people should minimise travel, there are to be no holidays, and people won't be allowed to stay away from home overnight. If it won't be safe to stay overnight in England, then obviously it would not be safe for people to travel into Wales," he added.

Holidays within the UK won't be allowed until 12 April at the earliest.

This is subject to four tests being met - including the vaccine rollout going smoothly and no surge in Covid-related hospital admissions.

If that happens, people can stay away from home with other members of their household, or bubble, in self-contained accommodation, such as a holiday cottage.
