AFTER a tough 15 months, many young students from across Penarth opened an important envelope today to find out where the future will take them.
This is the second year of replacement results after exams were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Headboy and headgirl, Lucas Follon and Radhiya Islam, both got their AS-level results today, both of which has done very well.
Lucas grabbed four A's in Physics, Maths, Georgraphy, and DT, and Radhiya took home one A and three B's in Chemistry, Biology, History and Criminology.
When reflecting on the past year of their studies, both described it as "tough", but said they couldn't have got through it without the help of St Cyres School.
"It's safe to say it was an incredibly challenging year," added Radhiya.
"And the school has offered the most amazing support system - the technology we were given, help with our wellbeing - which was really helpful for all of us
"I think we all can say how incredibly thankful we are that during this tough time we were able to get through it."
Headteacher, Mr P Lewis, said he was 'pleased' with the Sixth Form students results this year and that they were 'really strong' grades.
"It's good that they've had this opportunity to come in and share their success," he added.
"The students have had the right results, and the system has worked, in so much as they got the grades that they deserved.
"They've shown all sorts of remarkable skills in that period, the things that they've learnt, the resilience, and I think they've done incredibly well actually.
"To me, this should be about their success, not grades and percentages, it's about them doing really well in challenging circumstances."
Early last month, students at Westbourne School in Penarth picked up their record-breaking results a month earlier.
Their results secured them entry to some of the country’s top universities, including the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and UCL.
Westbourne offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Sixth Form.
Internationally recognised for its rigour, this multi-disciplinary course develops well-rounded, global citizens with an impressive depth and breadth of knowledge.
Stanwell School, located on Archer Road, tweeted: "Congratulations to each and every one of our students on their A-level results today.
"The way in which you have responded to all obstacles and challenges along the way has been nothing short of remarkable."
