ORGANISERS of the Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern (DPVC) are ‘delighted’ to have the support of a talented giant vegetable growers fundraising competition.

Cecil Townsend, who is well-known in Dinas Powys for his brilliant display of giant vegetables every September, has put his talents to good use once again with his “guess the weight” competition.

Each year Mr Townsend sets up his stall outside The Three Horses Pub on Station Road – the same week DPVC would hold its annual village show.

This year it is taking place on Friday, September 17. 

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the show has been postponed two years in a row, but Mr Townsend's small display helps raise important cash for the charity.

The charity have continuously supported elderly residents in the area throughout the pandemic with their Borrowing Bus initiative and transporting vulnerable residents for vaccines in Penarth and beyond.

John Fanshaw, DPVC chairman, said: “I am delighted that Cecil is once again supporting Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern with his display of giant vegetables and his guess the weight competition.

“It’s been, yet again, a difficult year with our village show and many other village events and fundraisers being cancelled but Cecil’s contribution, as always, is greatly appreciated.”
