A LOCAL band has gained fans across the globe after making the finals of a music competition.
Double act Altered Myths features 34-year-old Penarth resident Matik on vocals and drums, and 34-year-old Eskay from Dinas Powys on guitar and bass.
The band, which formed in 2017, were just one of five European finalists in the Vans Musicians Wanted 2021 competition.
Matik said: “I saw the competition advertised on Facebook so did some research and saw it was a pretty big deal so applied.
“To get to the final we had to stand out among more than 30,000 competitors.
“There’s always so much competition in the music industry, but we believed we’d make a big impression thanks to our image and how immediate our music is.”
And the duo smashed it; they were one of just five European finalists selected to perform at a livestreamed concert to decide who would join YUNGBLUD on a tour next year.
They performed upcoming singles: Blacksmith and Funeral and – although Lemonade Shoelace was crowned winner – Altered Myths' act earned them praise and exposure.
“We were glad the judges appreciated our musicianship,” said Matik.
“It was great that they were impressed at what we achieved as a duo.
“The public response has made it so worth it – we’ve gained followers in Brazil, Spain, and the U.S.A; it’s exciting to see people from all over the world connect with us.”

The final of Vans Musicians Wanted 2021 competition is available to watch here - Altered Myths are featured from 29 minutes, 10 seconds (29:10) into the video.
Although Altered Myths enjoyed the experience a live-streamed show does not compare to the exhilaration of a live audience.
“Everyone in the final was amazing in their own genre,” said Matik.
“But the impact of our music is clearest when you see a crowd feeding off the energy, headbanging, dancing and singing along with us.
“We want to thank everyone who supported us and can't wait to see you in person at the shows.”
So what’s next for Altered Myths?
They’re finalising a special release for Hallowe’en and mixing their next two EPs, with a gig lined up at Swansea Fringe Festival on October 23.
They’ll also headline The Vulcan Lounge, in Cardiff, on Saturday November 20.
