AN AMBITIOUS art project has been launched by an artist from Penarth.

Megan Davies, from Penarth, has launched the project ‘50 flowers for 50 charities’ in which she will support 50 different charities by selling 50 pieces of artwork featuring flowers – firstly Horatio’s Garden Wales at University Hospital Llandough.

Horatio's Garden creates and nurtures beautiful gardens in NHS spinal injury centres to support everyone affected by spinal injury.

Ms Davies, who now lives in London, attended St. Cyres School (1983-1990) and was taught art by Mr Farmer and Mr Harrington works primarily in 2D media including drawing, painting, collage, and printmaking.

Penarth Times:

“I was a patient at Llandough as a child, and the hospital has been used by many of my family, friends and acquaintances,” said Ms Davies.

“My mother is still a resident of Penarth as are other members of my family and numerous friends.

“We have always valued having such a wonderful local hospital on our doorstep and I think it is fantastic that Horatio's Garden are building a nature sanctuary there for those recovering from spinal injuries.”

Ms Davies – who has won awards for her work and had an exhibition of her degree work at Llandough Hospital – is currently selling Limited Edition Fine Art Giclée Prints of her original Bellflower painting – available via https://bit.ly/3yxgpSo

Penarth Times:

The prints range in size and price from £50 to £260, with approximately 30 per cent from each sale being donated to Horatio’s Garden Wales. 

This is the first artwork on sale as part of this project, with 49 more on the cards – each supporting different charitable organisations.

“I will be selecting charitable organisations which work to protect the natural environment and wildlife and charities which promote the importance of the natural world for health and wellbeing,” added Ms Davies.

“I hope to support small, community and volunteer-led charities as well as the larger, well-known organisation.”

  • Greenpeace UK
