A NEW study has shown that Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are the safest places to drive in the UK.
Price comparison website Quotezone has put together some research based on population, number of licensed vehicles, number of road accidents and number of road casualties.
This data was then used to create an index of the safest regions of the UK for driving, with each are given a score out of 100.
Cardiff and the Vale were grouped together and got a score of 86.125 out of 100 - by far the best score in the UK.
The closest any other region got was Swansea, which received a score of 80.275.

Quotezone said that 85 road casualties occur per one million people in Cardiff and the Vale which is the 10th lowest rate out of the 168 regions analysed.
The immediate area surrounding the Vale had decent scores, with Bridgend receiving a score of 77.6 and Rhonnda Cynon Taf receiving a score of 63.2.
However, Newport received a score of 45.38.
Quotezone gave five tips for motorists to stay safe on the roads:
- Remember the speed limit is not a target and adjust speed for hazards such as fog or rain;
- Don't use your phone while driving;
- Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy before setting off;
- Remember to check your wing mirror, indicate and check your blindspot for potential road users before turning;
- Ensure you are fit to drive and are not too fatigued or unwell.
