FONMON Castle will be hosting a pirate weekend after having to abandon plans for a Napoleonic 'extravaganza' due to fire safety fears.
The castle has recently hosted a successful Viking themed weekend and hope to continue that success with a pirate weekend.
The pirate activities will be held this weekend (August 20 to August 21) after it was deemed that firing cannon and musket blanks for the planned Napoleonic event could be a fire risk due to the recent dry weather.
Children have a host of activities to enjoy including beating the Walk the Plank maze, navigating an obstacle course, competing in a tug of war contest, and much more.
Once someone completes the challenges, they will be given a secret password so they can forge their own pirate coin in the Chandler Shop within the castle’s Medieval farm.
The regular attractions at the castle will reamain open during the event.
No further cost will be added to the price of admission and a general admission ticket costs £11 per person, while children aged three and younger enter free.
Living history expert Ross O’Hennessy, who runs the attractions at Fonmon Castle, said: "Hundreds of people came along to our Viking weekend, which was hugely enjoyable.
"It’s a shame the weather has forced us to postpone our Naopleonic weekend until next year – but we’re confident visitors will have just as much fun with our themed pirate activities."
