RNLI Penarth are on the hunt for two new shore-based volunteers to help get boats out to sea when lives are in danger.
A deputy launching authority is vital for RNLI operations and the volunteers are responsible for initiating the launch of the lifeboat when asked by the Coastguard.
Once it is decided to launch a lifeboat, both the lifeboat crew and the shore crew are told by pager to immediately make their way to the station.
In 2021, RNLI Penarth’s lifeboats launched 41 times to rescue 54 people and save four lives.
Jason Dunlop, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Penarth Lifeboat Station, said: "RNLI Penarth couldn’t carry out our lifesaving work without the effort and dedication of our volunteers.
"Volunteering for the RNLI is a rewarding experience, a chance to develop new skills and a good way to meet new friends and become part of a brilliant team."
Applications close on October 9.
