THIS year’s Remembrance Parade in Penarth will start from a new location.
The Remembrance Sunday parade, which is taking place on November 13 – the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day - will not start at Station Road as it has in previous years.
Instead, members of the public who wish to join the parade should assemble at Rectory Road – adjacent to the Garden of Remembrance – at 10am on November 13.
The change of starting point is to minimise road closures and disruption in Penarth on the day.
As always the Last Post, observance of two minutes silence, and wreath laying ceremony will take place in the Garden of Remembrance, which was created in 1934 and is near the Rectory Road entrance to Alexandra Park.
This will take place before the parade assembles and marches in honour of those who fought in conflicts and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The parade will assemble at Rectory Road before marching - via Windsor Terrace, Stanwell Road and Victoria Square – for the service in All Saints Church which will start at 10.50am.
After the church service, the parade will reassemble and march from Victoria Road - via Stanwell Road and Windsor Road – to the Ex-Servicemen's Club where it will terminate.
According to the Royal British Legion: “Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
“We remember the armed forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.”
Prior to the Remembrance Sunday parade in Penarth there will be a short service of remembrance held in the town on Friday, November 11.
Members of the Royal British Legion Penarth invite the public to join them at 10.50am on that date on the pavement adjacent to the St Fagans Pub on Windsor Road.
There will be a short service of remembrance with a two-minute silence observed at 11am.
