ONE of the biggest events in Penarth’s summer calendar is set to return – bigger than ever.
Penarth Lawn Tennis Club is expecting more than 1,000 guests at its music and street food festival on Saturday, May 27.
The popular event returned last year – for the first time since lockdown – and will be back for 2023 with more food vendors, more bars, and capacity for up to 1,300 guests.
Club chairman, Martin Radford, said: “Last year’s event was a real community celebration.
“We had a sell-out crowd picnicking on the grass and dancing to the bands.
“We expect the event to sell out quickly, especially as it was so popular last year.”
The event – which is organised by volunteers at the club – will feature five bands playing a variety of music.
“After the success of last year’s event we are expecting bumper crowds,” said one of the event organisers Al Cozens.
“So, we’ve tripled bar capacity, brought in Wilmores to do teas and coffees, and we’ve got two new food stalls.”
The festival will run from 12.30pm to 8pm on May 27, with headliners The Woods to perform a selection of classic rock and indie songs.
Other acts include:
- St Lawrence playing Motown and reggae classics;
- Rock ‘n roll band Roosevelt;
- Ska band Tatsyrup;
- Local covers band Little Giants.
“We’ve booked a wide range of bands, so there will be something for everyone,” said another organiser, Paul Edwards.
“Hopefully we’ll get almost everyone on the dancefloor.”
Along with music there’ll be plenty for foodies.
There will be Mexican food from The Bearded Taco, while Keralan Karavan will be doing their unique take on south Indian cuisine.
The Welsh Italian Pizza Co will be doing toasties and ice cream along with pizza. Sweet tooths doughnut need to despair – Cardiff Dough and Co will also be at the event.
The new additions for 2023 are:
- Ringo’s Dirty Diner (burgers, hot dogs, fries);
- Tokyo Nights (Japanese-style street food).
The festival is made possible by support from local businesses, including headline sponsors for 2023: GC Insulation Services.
