ANOTHER new charity shop is coming to Penarth town centre.
Cancer Research Wales is moving into the unit formally occupied by Wales family favourite Shaws the Drapers.
A spokesperson for CRW has insisted that this charity shop will not be like others, “offering a high-quality, sustainable shopping experience”.
'Everything has changed in Penarth, but at least Shaws is still there'
It’s hard to take away from the fact that the high street is changing.
Shaws was an institution. A family-run business on the high street for over 100 years in Wales, which tragically closed its doors a day before Christmas Eve in 2022, leaving 150 staff unemployed.
One resident of Penarth commented on Facebook: “No way! I only said to my husband the other day when we went up Penarth, everything has changed but at least Shaws is still there.”
Cancer Research Wales is coming to "vibrant" Penarth
Everything is changing on the high street which includes Cancer Research Wales’ new store – which will compliment Cancer Research UK’s store round the corner on Stanwell Road (before you ask, the two organisations are separate).
A spokesperson for Cancer Research Wales described opening the store in the "vibrant, thriving town of Penarth", offering a wide range of products for men, women and children.
Kieran Harris, chief executive officer of Cancer Research Wales said it was exciting times for the charity.
“We are really excited to be opening a shop in Penarth,” said Mr Harris.
“Our stores provide a high-quality shopping experience, with well-trained staff and volunteers who are passionate about the charity - and this comes across in the great service we pride ourselves in delivering.
“Our stores not only support sustainable shopping, as everything we sell has been donated, but are an important part of Cancer Research Wales being able to invest in better understanding, diagnosing, and treating cancer.
“Cancer Research Wales was founded in Wales and is focussed on the needs of people living in Wales. We’re looking forward to building our relationship with individuals and businesses in Penarth to ensure people in Wales can continue to benefit from ground-breaking, transformative research that saves lives.”
Cancer Research Wales’ new store will be open in Penarth from July 22, 9am to 5pm, seven days a week.
