A MAN was rescued from a cliffside in Penarth last night after being cut off by the tide.
The man was found on Thursday, August 3, at the Penarth Head, after being forced to the base of the cliff with little room on a steep rocky scree due to the high tide and swell.
Crews from the RNLI Penarth lifeboat station were alerted to the rescue after the man was spotted signalling with the light from his mobile phone.
The man was quickly rescued from the area as it is prone to rock falls, the crew then escorted the man to safety.
A spokesperson from RNLI Penarth Lifeboat station said: “The high tide was nearly 13m and swell meant the casualty had been forced to the case of the cliff with very little room on steep rocky scree.
“There have often been rock falls in that area, the crew quickly fitted the casualty with a lifejacket and extracted him from the cliff base.
“We returned to station shortly afterwards where he was assessed before returning home."
