UNSURE on how to entertain the little ones this summer?
Along with one-off craft events, Penarth Library offers a whole host of ongoing activities to keep them occupied over the holidays.
Code Club
When: Every Tuesday, 3.45pm.
Is your child an aspiring tech genius? Do they have an idea for an app or website that could be the next big thing? Let them nurture those skills by joining Code Club: a nationwide society for children aged nine to 13.
The club’s sessions comprise of some basic training of resources such as Scratch, Python, and Raspberry Pi, along with free time to allow your child to work on their own project.
Other than having a bit of fun, the skills your child will acquire at Code Club can really help with their future career prospects.
Dungeons and Dragons Club
When: Thursdays (fortnightly), 4.30pm-6.30pm.
If your child is into adventure, fantasy, and story-telling - this is the club for them.
Penarth Library’s Dungeon and Dragons club poses as a fun introduction to the fantastical game for ages eight to 12.
Lego Club
When: Every Saturday, 2pm to 3pm.
Are you raising a little architect? Lego Club runs each Saturday, allowing the kids to get creative and construct whatever they want.
Sessions are free of charge.
Ready, Set, pinball!
When: Wednesday, August 23, and Wednesday, August 30, 10am to 11.30am and 2pm to 3.30pm.
Come along to the pinball workshop and make your very own desktop pinball game. Suitable for ages 7+, and make sure you book before attending.
Charge: £1 per child.
Pro-Teen night
When: Second Wednesday of the month, 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
In short: a space where your teen can hang out with other teens and do whatever they want (within reason).
Among its many activities, Pro-Teen night gives your child a chance to meet new friends, get creative, watch films, and learn valuable skills.
Snacks are provided by the club’s organisers, but you can also bring your own.
Entry: £1.
Rhyme and Sign
When: Every other Friday, from 10am to 10.30am.
This is one for the tiny ones!
Sessions focus on practising actions and signing using baby signing techniques for children under the age of five.
There is no need to book for these sessions, and they are also free of charge, so just come along!
Storytime
When: Every Tuesday, 2pm to 2.30pm.
Another one for the teeny ones, Storytime comprises of sessions for storytelling and crafts, specifically for young children.
Bookings are taken on the day of the session, and attendance is free of charge.
Tots Treasure Time
When: Every other Wednesday, 10am to 10.30am.
If you fancy your child the next big pop star, come along to Penarth Library’s Tots Treasure Time, where sessions focus on musical rhyming for babies and toddlers.
