Here at the Penarth Times we love a good pub, and we want to tell you about all the best ones across the Vale of Glamorgan. In the first of our series 'Pub of the Week', we paid a visit to The Golden Lion pub in Penarth.
NESTLED in the back street of Glebe Street is The Golden Lion, a JW Bassett Pub known for its good value food and friendly welcome.
JW Bassett Pubs and Bars took over the establishment in 2008, and manager Paul Harper spoke to the Penarth Times about how the pub stands out from other venues in Penarth.
He said: “It’s a local pub with a great atmosphere and a huge range of drink choices including a bettered low alcohol range.
“With 20 keg lines, we have the biggest draft choice in Penarth as well as our wine list which is great too.”

The town venue won the Pub of the Year award for six years in a row from 2014 to 2019, and was highly commended by the CAMRA Beer guide since 2014.
The venue has seven large TV screens that show live sports, on Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Viva Sports - including the Rugby World Cup in France.
Mr Harper added: “We can provide two different channels at once, and it is always busy for football, rugby, and cricket.
“On rugby day the atmosphere is electric, we have a standing room only, and we always have good banter with the English manager on match days.”
The Golden Lion serves a range of good value food, hosts different deals each week and is planning to re-introduce Sunday lunches.

Mr Harper added: “Our burgers are the most popular, with the Texan Burger being a firm favourite. Next month we are planning to re-launch our Sunday carvery priced at £9.99
“It will be better than ever and will even be a good option to Toby Carvery, our ales are our best sellers.
“The main one we have is Diggers Gold from Grey Trees, but with four pumps available with Vale of Glamorgan and Glamorgan Brewery always sells very well.”
