People from the Vale of Glamorgan named in King's New Years Honours

Here are all the people from the Vale who have been named in the honours list:

• Duncan Roy Barber, of Cowbridge, has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the defence industry.
• David John O’Sullivan, of Barry, who is chief optometric advisor to the Welsh Government has also been made an OBE for services to eye care in Wales.
• Luigi Strinati, delivery director with HM Courts and Tribunals Service Wales, of Penarth, has been made an OBE for public service.
• Gerald Ronald Joseph Adams, of Barry, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for voluntary services to the community in the town.
• Howard John Provis, also of Barry, has also been made an MBE for services to the Welsh Blood Transfusion Service and to the community in Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan. He has donated blood more than 500 times, becoming one of the largest donors in the whole of the UK. He even donated blood to be transported while living in Germany.
• Beverly Joan Hopkins, special educational needs co-ordinator at Barry’s Palmerston Primary School has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to education, to people with disabilities, and to sport.

Prime minister Rishi Sunak said: “The New Year’s Honours list recognises the exceptional achievements of people across the country and those who have shown the highest commitment to selflessness and compassion.

“To all honourees, you are the pride of this country and an inspiration to us all.”

Deputy prime minister Oliver Dowden said: “Everyone from Wales receiving honour today represents the best in British communities.

“I send my warmest congratulations to this year’s recipients, all of whom are incredibly deserving for what they have achieved.
