PENARTH Operatic and Dramatic Society has been nominated for three awards for its 2023 productions in the annual Glammies.
Glammies are hosted by the Glamorgan Drama League, celebrating excellence in all aspects of community theatre, and it appraises travel throughout the region during the year.
Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society has received 23 individual performance nominations in Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance and Best Supporting Male and Female Performances for its production of Treasure Island, Chess the Musical and Ladies Day.
PODS Chairman Mary Gardner told the Penarth Times that she is delighted with the awards.
She said: “We were thrilled to learn that three of our productions have been nominated for so many awards.
“I am so proud of everyone who has been nominated, as well as all our other cast members and those who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
“I also send our sincere congratulations to all the other societies whose productions have also been nominated.”
Two members of the PODS youth society have also received nominations in the Under 14s Category.
She added: “Amateur theatre plays such an important role in all of our local communities, and it is so heartening to see everyone’s efforts recognised in this way.”
The Glammies award ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 9, where the winners will be announced.
Penarth Operative and Production Society will also be celebrating its centenary this year having been formed in 1924, it has been providing entertainment to Penarth for 100 years.
To mark the occasion PODS has put on the following programme of events taking place this year starting with Shakespeare in Love.
This romantic comedy is a dramatisation of the Academy Award-winning film that starred Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow.
It also starred Dame Judi Dench who won an Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth I in what is one of the shortest Oscar-winning scenes in the history of the academy.
