A PENARTH artist has had his painting selected for a special exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
Frank Collict, 66, was amongst hundreds of artists whose work was selected to feature in The Royal Institute of Watercolour exhibition for the first time.
His painting ‘Watercolour’ which shows a rural country scene, was selected for the exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
He told the Penarth Times that he is delighted with being selected for the prestigious exhibition.
He said: “It’s an honour that my painting was selected as the exhibition is one of the largest in the world.
“My painting is a country scene, and I am very chuffed it was selected as it is quite a big deal and assures that you are on the right path as a painter.
“It is one of them things where I am shocked but very pleased, my family are over the moon and very proud it was selected.”
Mr Collict runs workshops in Penarth which focus on watercolour and oil demonstrations. His next workshop is on Saturday, May 4 at the Penarth Conservative Club.
The father-of-two trained as a graphic designer in north-east England before moving to Penarth to study wildlife illustration.
His work mainly focuses on capturing images with a bold brush while conveying the light and atmosphere of a place he is at. He paints images in watercolour and oil and prefers to paint from nature.
His paintings of Penarth include the Penarth Pier Pavilion, Penarth Headland, Over the Rooftops, Penarth Pier 2, Penarth from Cardiff Bay and St Augustine’s Church, which can be viewed on his website.
The exhibition gives the artists a chance to win one of twelve awards and one of six prizes worth over £5,000.
The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours exhibition showcases contemporary watercolour and water-based media paintings from around the globe.
