PLANS to build a Wellbeing Hub at Penarth leisure centre could be scuppered depending on flood impact assessments.
One of the plans is for Cardiff and Vale Health Board to build the new-style GP/community health service at the leisure centre in Cogan.
Penarth Times attended a tour of a Wellbeing Hub in action in Llandeyrn, Cardiff, where we were shown round by members of the health board and Cardiff Council who have teamed up with the health service to offer council services in the adjacent building.
It was here, when pressed on where the Wellbeing Hub in eastern Vale could be built, that one of the health board officials said plans for Penarth leisure centre have been put on hold until the health board receive a flooding impact assessment on the area, said to be being developed by Natural Resources Wales.
CVUHB continue to reiterate that no decision has been made on where the Wellbeing Hub in Eastern Vale could be situated, with Penarth’s old police station on Windsor Road also a potential location for the new site.
Councillor view on Wellbeing Hub: ‘I hope Welsh Government will be suitably minded to provide considerable finance’
At a recent tour of a wellbeing hub in action, local councillor Anthony Ernest, described the model as an “excellent” idea.
Wellbeing Hubs are new style health service encouraged by Welsh Government with one desired by the health board to serve Penarth, Dinas Powys, Sully and Lavernock.
On his tour of a Wellbeing Hub representative of Plymouth ward Cllr Ernest said: “This seems an excellent model to work on for our long-awaited Penarth Health Centre.
“I just hope that Welsh Government will be suitably minded to provide the considerable, and very necessary finance, when the final design eventually reaches them."
Latest Wellbeing hub engagement session in Sully ‘poorly attended’
Did you know about the wellbeing hub engagement session in Sully at the start of this year?
As part of the process to build the wellbeing hub, CVUHB have to hold engagement with the public.
There has been fury from residents in the past over the lack of communication between the health board and the public about their plans for a Wellbeing Hub.
On the latest engagement session in Sully – the health board admitted the event was poorly attended, saying: “While attendance was poor on this occasion, residents within the Eastern Vale have been previously keen to make their feedback known and we are grateful for their prior engagement.”
On their advertising of the engagement session, the health board said: “Advertising for the drop-in session at Sully library was on the same level as previous drop-in sessions, including hard-copy posters displayed at eight local sites, meeting details were included on three organisations’ webpages, notification of the session given to 16 ward members, five town, community or parish council members and five press publications for further sharing.”
Did you know about the engagement session in Sully? What do you think about plans for the Wellbeing Hub? Do you know what it is? Where should it go?
