STAGE times have been released as well as the time of the famous downhill derby as Penarth gears up for its Summer Festival 2024.
The downhill derby will take place at 2pm. Penarth Town Council has also revealed the times of the performances set to be put on during the festival.
Penarth is gearing up for this year’s Downhill Derby and Summer Festival, taking place this Saturday, June 13, on the Esplanade.
Last year, thousands of people were left disappointed when the event had to be cancelled due to high winds. However, this year the weather looks better.
For 2024, the stage has a great selection of free live music compered by Laura Jane Jones and featuring Penarth’s own John Lewis, fabulous rock band Stonehouse, No Thee No Ess bringing sounds from their new country-tinged album and the epic Wonderbrass. Headlining are the legendary Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band.
On street entertainment will be provided by Kitsch n Sync and Splatch, funfair rides and amusements, Bro Radio, Dawnstalkers bringing a sauna to the street and many stalls available.
The Esplanade and pier will feature a whole host of great food and drink to bring a party atmosphere while supporting local businesses.
A PTC spokesperson said: “Prepare to be entertained by an impressive line-up of performers, and the pulse-pounding action of the downhill derby will take centre stage, providing adrenaline-fueled excitement for participants and onlookers.”
Penarth Town mayor, Cllr Gwenda Roberts said of the event: "We are all looking forward to this year's summer festival and its exciting downhill derby! There will be so much for children and people of all ages to enjoy.”
