THEY won the talent competition!

On July 19, Penarth Times reported that quartet 4th Harmony, which was competing in YouTube talent competition 'Talent Search UK', had made it to the Grand Final – well they only went and won it!

The group is made up of Penarth girls Medi Owen and Neve, as well as Cardiff based Gracie-Leigh and Brooke.

‘Talent Search UK’ is described as X-Factor, but on YouTube and now the girls’ have won the competition, their dream career could be about to kick off!

The prize for winning the competition is a professionally recorded 10 track album, photo shoots and promotional assistance.

Father of Medi, Penarth Physiotherapy Practice owner Dyfri Owen, said despite the win, the girls have their feet firmly on the ground.

“We are absolutely delighted for them,” said Mr Owen. “They worked so hard.

“They are only young and they have their feet firmly on the ground, but they all love singing and they are pretty special together.”

They certainly gave special performances in auditions.

The producers asked the girls if they would combine forces to create a new group called 4th Harmony.

The girls, who already knew each other from working with Amy Guppy from the Jeff Guppy School of Musical Theatre in Penarth, agreed to combine.

Their route through the competition saw them garner standing ovations.

They sang Never Enough from the Greatest Showman in their audition and the judges were instantly impressed and they proceeded to the live shows.

In the second round they sang You Will be Found from the musical Dear Evan Hansen and they received a standing ovation from all four judges and the audience.

Another standing ovation from all four judges followed their incredible third round performance of Show Me How You Burlesque from the movie Burlesque which saw them safely through to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, they wowed the audience and all four judges with their beautiful version of Frank Sinatra's My Way and as all four judges stood up applauding once more, they had done enough to reach the Grand Final.

Mr Owen added: “People are already asking how they can book them. Who knows what’s next, but they have already generated a lot of interest!”
