A FAMOUS British actor popped up in another part of the Vale as filming of his new TV series continues.
Timothy Spall has been appearing in Penarth for filming of his new comedy drama, murder mystery Death Valley – Spall was even spotted popping into Boots on Windsor Road.
Well, now Spall has shown up in Llantwit Major where filming of the show continued.
On July 21, Vale Council warned residents that there was to be ‘activity’ round St Illtyd’s Church and Galilee Chapel on the western edge of the town while filming takes place in some residential properties.
And on July 25, a lucky PCSO got to have a picture with Mr Spall.
PCSO Cummings described how she had the ‘opportunity’ to meet Mr Spall, and she grasped it with both hands! Finishing by saying ‘it was nice to meet you’.
Death Valley follows the unlikely crime-solving partnership between eccentric national treasure John Chapel (Timothy Spall), a retired actor and star of hit fictional detective TV show ‘Caesar’, and disarming Welsh detective sergeant Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth).
Thrown together by the murder of John’s neighbour, John and Janie are an odd, yet hilarious duo with opposing instincts.
So far Spall has popped up in the centre of Penarth, where filming took place outside popular bakery Brod on Glebe Street.
Then, on July 3, there was lights, camera and action round a classic Volkswagen as Spall and his co-stars sat in the vehicle staring out at the gorgeous Bristol Channel vista next to the iconic Penarth Pier. Who wouldn’t!

On the series and his visits to Wales, Mr Spall, said: “I’m really looking forward to teaming up with the brilliant Gwyneth Keyworth and the fantastically talented team of creatives and technicians on this new and unique comedy drama.
“I’m relishing the prospect of getting stuck in as we embark on creating this truly oddball detective duo who develop their unusual combined eccentric skills to hilarious and surprisingly successful effect in beautiful rural Wales and its gorgeous towns and villages.”
