HOLM House could become a thirteen-bedroom super mansion under a planning application submitted for the former hotel.
Holm House Hotel tailored for famous stars including David Hasselhoff and Harry Styles, but, largely due to Covid, the hotel shut its doors at the end of March.
Now, there are plans to turn the spa resort into a thirteen-bedroom super mansion over three floors with each bedroom being ensuite.
Penarth Times took a closer look at the planning application which includes a swimming pool, gym, two story granny annex and ‘display kitchen’, along with the kitchen…
Plans show the ground floor would have an office, snug, dining and entertainment spaces, a gym, a pool and two bedrooms.
The first floor would have eight bedrooms and a nursery and the second floor a further three bedrooms.
In their planning statement, created by Cardiff based LRM Planning, they say the proposals are a ‘well-considered’ alternative to an ‘unviable hotel’.
The application states: “This application proposes to convert an existing hotel to a single dwelling with the former manager’s accommodation being converted to a granny annexe.
“The proposal has been demonstrated to be a well-considered alternative to the unviable hotel use, offering the opportunity to return the property to its original use as a dwellinghouse and avoid it deteriorating as a vacant building.
“The demand for hotel accommodation, in particular of this type and scale, is demonstrated as being volatile, and there have been no viable offers to purchase the site to run it as a hotel since it closed.”
Prior to Holm House becoming a hotel, it also acted as a care home with council planning documents showing permission was given for this change of use in 1976.
The conservation area appraisal for Penarth in 2011 listed Holm House as a ‘county treasure’.
The new application added: “Additionally, the proposal offers an opportunity to retain and enhance an existing building of merit in a manner that requires minimal alterations.”
Despite being considered an ‘unviable hotel’, at the time it closed, former general manager Dan Jones said he was extremely proud of what his staff had achieved.
“The staff have been amazing,” said Mr Jones.
“We wanted to continue business as usual to the end and I am so proud of the staff and the way they just carried on with a smile. They delivered the same level of service to the end.”
