Establishments awarded top marks in food hygiene ratings

Romeo's by the Sea

A business located on the Esplanade, Romeo's by the Sea offers Italian cuisine a selection of pasta, pizza, salad, seafood and house dishes. 

The restaurant claims these dishes are "all prepared with fresh Welsh ingredients combined with Mediterranean flair and know-how".

The Food Standards Agency team visited the restaurant on Friday, August 2.

They found the restaurant to be of 'Good' standard, in terms of hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

Headway Cardiff & South East Wales

Located in the University Hospital on Penlan Road, the Headway is a small local charity and non-profit organisation, supporting those who have been affected by an acquired brain injury (ABI).

As refreshments and foods are prepared for sessions, which must be done to food hygiene requirements, the Food Standards Agency team paid the charity a visit on Thursday, August 1.

They found the premises to be of 'Good' standard, in terms of hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

Llanfair Unit

A unit at the Cardiff And Vale University University Hospital on Penlan Road, the Llanfair Unit which handles adult mental health services achieved a '5' food hygiene rating after a visit from the inspectors on Thursday, August 1.

The unit offers protected mealtimes for patients at varying times of the day.

The Food Standards Agency team paid a visit to the unit and found the premises to be of 'Good' standard, in terms of hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

Spar

The Food Standards Agency team paid a visit to retailer and convenience store, Spar, on Thursday, August 1.

Located within Llandough Hospital, the store offers fresh fruit and veg, as well as convenience meals for those on-the-go.

The shop is open from 7am until 9pm.

Llandough & Leckwith Royal British Legion Club

Part of the Royal British Legion on Penlan Road, the Llandough & Leckwith Royal British Legion Club offers function rooms for hire as well as a pool table, skittles, darts, Sky Sports, and quiz nights.

As the club has kitchen facilities and room for a buffet, the Food Standards Agency team visited the club and classed it as 'Very Good' following the inspection on Tuesday, July 23.

The cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and the management of food safety were awarded grades of 'Good.'

However the club received a 'Very Good' score by the hygiene inspectors for their hygienic handling of food.
