A new bereavement journey course is starting in Penarth in October.

The initiative, developed by HTB Church in London, aims to assist individuals in processing grief.

The course consists of a series of films and discussion groups that guide participants through common aspects of bereavement, helping them understand its implications and decide on their next steps.

It is open to anyone aged 18 and above who has lost someone significant at any time and the next one in Penarth starts on October 9.

The course provides a platform for sharing, with seven sessions of films and discussions for those currently grieving or wanting to explore unresolved past bereavements.

The sessions cover topics such as attachment, separation and loss, the pain and responses of grief, anger and guilt, coping with others’ reactions, delayed and suppressed grief, adjusting to change, and moving forward healthily.

The course, usually run by churches, also offers a final optional session on faith questions in bereavement from a Christian perspective, making it suitable for people of any faith or none.

Previous participants have spoken highly of the course.

One said: "The course and everyone’s friendship has given us strength and hope for the future."

Another said: "Thank you so much—I’ve had countless counselling sessions and CBT but none of that worked.

"It wasn’t until I completed this course that I finally found at peace with regards to my dad’s sudden death."

The course costs £35, including a course manual, and bursaries are available for those unable to afford it. For more information contact tbjpenarth@gmail.com.
