A number of Penarth planning applications have been approved by the Vale of Glamorgan Council in the last week.
Here are the applications approved between Monday, September 9 and Sunday, September 15.
Rear extension
The Vale of Glamorgan Council approved a single-storey rear extension at first-floor level over an existing kitchen to enlarge an existing bedroom at 48 Pill Street, Cogan, Penarth.
Conditions include work must start within five years, be carried out in line with the approved plans and the approved biodiversity enhancements must be in place prior to beneficial use and remain in place whilst the development is in existence.
Work to cedar tree
Work to reduce the radial spread of a cedar tree in the front car park at 19 Stanwell Road, Penarth has been sanctioned.
The application was approved as several historic limb failures necessitated the work, leaving a high asymmetrical crown. The work to reduce the crown by 1.5 to 2 metres must be carried out within 24 months. It is hoped the work will bring the risk of lateral branch failure to a more acceptable level and stope the nuisance factor to the adjacent building. The work must not disturb or destroy bats and nesting birds.
Work to ash trees
The council approved felling work on diseased ash trees at Kymin Terrace Wood, Kymin Terrace, Penarth. The felling will be for the top half if the tree surgeon inspection shows that the lower part can be kept.
Requests for pruning of an oak tree and removal of a dead ash were also approved.
Both are a response to previous tree failures and must balance with the surrounding vegetation.
Cypress tree removal
Permission was again granted to remove a cypress tree at Glasfryn, 11 Lower Cwrt-y-vil Road, Penarth, as the previous approved application had expired after two years without action.
The work must now be completed within 24 months and nests must not be disturbed.
Part demolition of extension and other works
Approval was given for part demolition of a single-storey rear extension at 33 Clos Cradog, Penarth. The extension was built without planning permission. The permission includes the retention of the south eastern external wall which will be converted to a boundary wall.
Additional retrospective approval was given for an air source heat pump, solar panels, and a new timber pergola.
Work must begin within five years of the approval and done in line with the approved plans. Biodiversity enhancements must be put in place prior to the first beneficial use and remain in place whilst the development exists.
Balcony extension
The extension to the existing rear balcony for flat 9D at Albert Crescent, Penarth was approved.
It will incorporate a steel staircase, glass balustrading and timber decking roof terrace, with work to be completed within five years. Biodiversity enhancements must be put in place prior to beneficial use and remain in place throughout use. The same conditions have been put in place for privacy screens which must also be glazed in line with privacy rules.
Remodel of physiotherapy building
The remodel of Penarth Physiotherapy Practice, The Courtyard, Penarth, including construction of a mezzanine level and material treatment of elevations, was approved.
This also includes a new roof with a ridge level raised.
Several conditions must be adhered to, including timings for operating hours and building specifics. Biodiversity enhancements must be put in place and retained and work must be carried out in line with the approved plans and begin within five years of the approval notice.
New driveway
Approval was given to the creation of a driveway at 152, Redlands Road, Penarth to ease parking and reduce accidents on the busy road.
The plan would see space created to store two cars. The applicants highlighted that parking on street means that car doors must open onto the traffic and the applicants have had wind mirrors smashed a number of times.
The work is to be completed within five years, and the layout must adhere to the approved plans. Biodiversity enhancements must be put in place.
