A meeting carried out by the Vale council addressed concerns regarding the Vale’s local development plan.

The plan which outlines a local authority's long-term vision for development has been met with tension from residents in the Vale.

The plan outlines new development in the Vale from 2021-2036.

It states ‘526 dwellings per annum or 7,890 over the plan period’ meaning an estimated 7,890 new homes can be expected due to this plan.

Dinas Powys will receive a total of 250 new homes.

 Barry will support 15,00 dwellings.

Rhoose will receive a total of 450 homes.

Saint Athans will support 1,150 homes.

The meeting which took place last Monday (September 30th) allowed local councillors to voice residents concerns.

Councillor for Plaid Cymru Christopher Franks addressed the increase of homes in his ward (Dinas Powys): “At the meeting I used it as an opportunity to say how disappointed residents are that they’re being ignored and we learnt that we weren’t going to have another opportunity to have a formal say until next spring.

“Then there’s the issue of medical facilities being at capacity. Sometimes, it’s a struggle to get an appointment at the medical centre and the schools are full. There's no additional public services to cope with the additional population.”
