Every week, the Vale of Glamorgan Council makes decisions on various planning applications.
In the week of Monday, October 21, to Sunday, October 27, the council approved a number of applications for the Penarth area.
Here are some of them.
New lift at care centre
A new stretcher and 21-passenger lift at The Waverley Care Centre, Plymouth Road, has been approved.
Waverly Care Home is a leading care home for dementia patients in Penarth.
A fire safety review of the complex found the current evacuation process does not meet the minimum time for evacuation of the building.
It was recommended that a larger lift for 21 persons and a stretcher be installed.
This lift shaft will be connected to the existing multi-storeyed building and easily accessible for staff and residents in an emergency.
The council states that work must begin within five years of the approval date, carried out in line with the approved plans, biodiversity enhancements must be put in place and a scheme of tree protection must be installed at the site before work can take place.
Alterations to existing bungalow
An application for alterations to an existing bungalow at Craven Walk has been approved.
The changes will include a proposed entrance porch, rear extension, existing garage re-built and extended, proposed loft conversion, and associated works.
The conditions imposed by the council include that work must be started within five years of the approval date and be done in line with the approved plans.
There is also a condition that biodiversity enhancements outlined in the documents are put in place before the first beneficial use.
Any trees or plants which, within a period of five years from the completion of the development, die, are removed or become seriously damaged or diseased, shall be replaced in the next planting season with others of similar size and species.
Porch and extension
An application for a single-storey front porch, single-storey side utility, and first-floor side extension over existing ground floor extension at Church View Close has been approved.
Conditions include that work must be started within five years of the approval date and be carried out in line with the approved plans.
The materials to be used in the construction of the external surfaces of the extensions shall match those used in the existing dwelling.
No development or site clearance shall begin until the applicant has secured agreement for a written scheme of historic environment mitigation, which has been submitted and approved by the local planning authority.
Garden room
An application for the construction of a fully insulated garden room at Grove Place has been approved.
The garden room will have an internal area of 16m2, comprising a recreation room, separate shower room/WC, and a small store.
Conditions for the application include that the work must begin within five years of the approval date and be carried out in line with the approved documents.
Various perennial plants and shrubs in the rear garden borders, comprising a selection of lavender, fuchsias, osteospermum, and various grasses, will be planted within the planted areas and planted borders in the rear garden.
Any plants which, within a period of five years from the completion of the development, die, are removed or become seriously damaged or diseased, shall be replaced in the next planting season with others of similar size and species.
A bird box, which shall be sited 3m above ground level and affixed to the rear of the dwelling, shall be fitted prior to the first beneficial occupation or use of the development and thereafter retained.
