A BAFTA-winning designer is set to direct and create a new pantomime.
Andy Bradshaw, a Penarth designer, has been tasked with creating a brand new pantomime for Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society's (PODS) centenary year.
The pantomime, titled "Sleeping Beauty and the Kingdom of Dreams," will be performed at the Paget Rooms in December.
Mr Bradshaw was approached by PODS last year to create the new pantomime.
He has not only written the script, but is also directing the production, designing the set, and created the costumes with the help of a sewing team.
Mr Bradshaw said: "It was a huge honour being asked to undertake such a momentous production as the centenary year panto, but also quite daunting as I knew it would have to be spectacular.
"I decided on Sleeping Beauty because with the princess falling asleep for a hundred years it tied in beautifully with PODS celebrating its centenary.
"So, our story begins in 1824 and finishes in 1924, when PODS was formed."
The pantomime follows the traditional tale of Sleeping Beauty, but with some "magical twists."
Mr Bradshaw said: "When I started working on Sleeping Beauty, I knew that I wanted it to be a beautifully traditional version of the famous story, suitable for grown-ups and children alike, but I also wanted to add in some additional elements to make it a truly spectacular production.
"We’re fortunate in having a tremendous cast with fantastic voices so we’ve included some terrific songs that really lift everything.
"The singing, even in rehearsal, is absolutely joyous, and I know that everyone is going to love the song and dance routines."
PODS was formed in 1924 following an article in the Penarth Times and for 100 years has been staging a whole range of light operetta, musicals and plays and has been producing pantomimes for more than 30 years.
Sleeping Beauty and the Kingdom of Dreams is on at the Paget Rooms from Thursday, December 5 to Sunday, December 8 with a mix of evening and matinee performances.
Tickets are available on the Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society's Ticket Source page.
