A Penarth marketing agency and an IT services provider have joined forces to help a Cardiff autism centre.
Penarth-based B2B marketing agency, TMPR, and Cardiff's Steer IT have donated and installed a Promethean interactive display at the National Autistic Society’s (NAS) Cardiff Autism Centre.
The ActivPanel replaces a broken interactive whiteboard in one of the centre’s classrooms, enhancing the educational experiences for autistic students.
TMPR decided to donate the ActivPanel after upgrading its meeting room with a new ActivPanel LX.
Louise Morgan, TMPR director, said: "Acting sustainably is a core value for us, which is why we wanted the original ActivPanel to be rehomed rather than recycled."
The agency collaborated with Steer IT to find a suitable educational or community facility that could benefit from the technology.
Upon discovering that the NAS was grappling with failing technology in its Cardiff Autism Centre, the two companies decided to donate the ActivPanel.
Steer IT removed the old interactive whiteboard and installed the 75-inch ActivPanel at the centre on Pacific Road, Cardiff.
They also donated a specialist AV bracket to wall-mount the ActivPanel.
Stuart Steer, director of Steer IT, said: "We were really happy to support this initiative.
"We’ve recently become a Promethean partner in Wales, so this was a great opportunity to give something back to the community while giving our team the chance to get hands-on with the new solutions we offer."
The classroom where the ActivPanel was installed is regularly used by a student who had been struggling since the old interactive whiteboard stopped working.
Meirion Boudier, deputy manager at the Cardiff Autism Centre, said: "Interactivity is known to improve teaching and learning for all, but this is particularly true for some autistic students.
"When the old board stopped working, our student became increasingly frustrated and communication became much more difficult.
"The return of interactivity, thanks to the ActivPanel, will change that.
"As a charity, budgets are naturally a challenge, so we are always grateful for any support – and in this case, want to say a huge thank you to TMPR and Steer IT for making this happen."
