THE DECK in Penarth, which previously served cocktails and fresh food, has announced it will no longer be serving food or alcohol.
The former restaurant previously offered fresh fish on their weekly changing discovery menu and wine tasting events.
However, it will no longer be serving food or alcoholic drinks and is now calling itself a ‘coffee shop’.
The coffee house will be open Thursday to Sunday from 10am in the morning until 4pm.
A 'tough decision' ahead of winter
In a social media post, The Deck at Penarth, announcing the decision, said:
“As winter approaches, we’ve made the tough decision to reduce our offering at The Deck.
From this week, we’ll be serving only teas and coffees with our beautiful marina views.
"We know this is disappointing, but we hope to review things in the spring.
“If you have a booking, we’ll be in touch soon to discuss options. But we hope to see you for a coffee with a view soon.”
The restaurant over the years
In 2020, a devastating fire broke out weeks after it re-opened after a prior refurbishment.
In recent months, the restaurant was a popular lunchtime and dinner spot that offered live music.
In October, The Deck at Penarth launched its autumn cocktail menu weeks before announcing it will only serve tea and coffee.
Their wine tasting events allowed customers to eat a four-course tasting menu paired with new wine.
The marina restaurant offered fresh fish, a staple on their weekly changing discovery menu.
The Deck, which is situated in the marina, opened luxury rooms which floated on water in 2022.

The Deck's floating rooms
The ten new floating bedrooms included single, double, and twin rooms that all had ensuite facilities.
Initially, some locals were unsure about the installations, with worries they may bring late-night disturbances.
However, at the time, Philip Lay, director at boatfolk who (who own Penarth Marina) said:
“We are thrilled to welcome the new luxurious floating bedrooms to the marina.”
In 2022, The Deck had a refurbishment which included an extension of the dining area and a makeover of the balcony and restaurant.
