A choir from Barry has performed a song about a Barry War hero for Wales’s Festival of Remembrance.
Barry Male Voice Choir recently attended the Wales Festival of Remembrance which took place last Saturday (November 2nd) at the ICC in Newport.
Dorothy Connell 65, Musical Director for the choir said: “I’ve lived in Barry since 1985, and I was making up words for the song and I wanted to include a soldier from Barry and that’s what I did.
“I looked for hours through the Wales book of remembrance and online and there are lots of names from Barry.
“I really wanted something unique to the choir and quite personal so that was how that little song came about.”
The song called ‘Only Remembered’ pays tribute to a number of war heroes including Edward Davies a soldier from Barry that was killed in the first world war.
We asked Dorothy what the event was like she said: “It was very moving actually, and I don’t often get moved at remembrance things and it was very colourful, the band was fantastic.
“We sang with Cardiff Military Wives choir and there were participants from the Netherlands who gave their accounts of Welsh regiments liberating them.”
Remembrance Sunday is around the corner and will take place on November 10th.
