I WENT to three local bakeries in Penarth town centre to share what cinnamon buns and other festive pastries are up for offer.

It might be a little early to start putting up your Christmas tree, but it’s definitely not too early to treat yourself to a festive pastry.

The cinnamon bun is a perfect comfort treat for those cold and grey days between autumn and winter.

A warmed up cinnamon bun is a lovely way to start the morning, so why not support local bakeries on your doorstep?

1. Brød bakery

The Æble SneglThe Æble Snegl (Image: Newsquest) In the heart of Penarth, Brød bakery on Glebe Street has cinnamon buns in their Danish name Kanel Snegl.

It is a traditional soft dough with a cinnamon filling and iced topping which looked delicious, however, I chose the Æble Snegl.

This twist on the popular Snegl has the same traditional Danish soft dough but has an apple and cinnamon sugar filling and iced topping.

The apple and cinnamon tasted delicious and priced at £3.45 it is alternative option to a traditional cinnamon bun.

2. Brutons The Bakers

The Cinnamon and Sultana DanishesThe Cinnamon and Sultana Danishes (Image: Newsquest) If you are looking for a more affordable option, you might want to head to Brutons The Bakers.

Brutons the Bakers was first established in Cardiff in 1898, by Harry Windsor Bruton.

This bakery on Glebe Street offers Cinnamon and Sultana Danishes for only £1.34 each.

I am personally not the biggest fan of sultanas, however, this pastry was lovely and is a great affordable option.

There is also an array of festive cupcakes, if you are looking for more seasonal sweet treats.

3. Ground Bakery

The Cardamom BunsThe Cardamom Buns (Image: Newsquest) This bakery on Stanwell Road had sold out of their cinnamon buns for the day, so I tried one of their Cardamon buns.

The pastry was delicious and the cardamon spice really gave it warmth that reminded me of Christmas baking.

If you are looking for something a bit different with a bit of spice, I definitely recommend this pastry which costs £3.80.
