A Penarth school has raised £2,000 for the RNLI.
Stanwell School pupils and staff took up the challenge to support Penarth RNLI's target of raising £20,000 during the 2024 celebration of the charity’s 200th anniversary.
The Stanwell School charity committee decided to raise money for their chosen charitable cause, the RNLI.
The school pupils held a ‘dress down day’ in the summer term and followed this with a sponsored staff car wash.
Sixth form pupils and members of the committee went to the lifeboat station to present a cheque to Laurie Pavelin, chairman of Penarth RNLI.
The pupils and staff raised just over £1,500 and £500 in the respective events.
Mr Pavelin said: "It is so special to get this engagement with Stanwell’s young adults, we have plans to continue the RNLI 200 celebrations throughout 2024, marking this special moment in history and hoping to inspire the next generation of lifesavers."
The charity committee members and students in attendance were given a tour of the station.
During this, they had a detailed presentation of the two lifeboats in the station, a D class and the Atlantic 85 B class lifeboat, and heard how crew members train and go out to save lives at sea.
The RNLI thanked Stanwell School for the money - saying it will buy a complete set of kit for one of the latest recruits as they start on their training to become a fully qualified lifeboat crew member.
