IT’S here and it’s stunning. Penarth’s classy new wine bar has opened and we’ve been inside to have a look.
The Touring Club opened at the beginning of June, and, with a few fine-tune adjustments, the swanky new bar is up and running selling fine wine and delicious nibbles to compliment your favourite sauvignon or glass of ice-cold rose.
We were one of the first in Touring Club and it's impressive. Below is a walk-through video where we take you round the super-smart new bar.
Terms such as “fine wine” and “swanky” might conjure up ideas of shirt and tie dinner-do style nights out, however Touring Club is different, offering a relaxed and chilled atmosphere in seriously smart surroundings.
It’s so chilled that they don’t even take bookings, just walk in and check it out. The bar also features an eye-catching steel grate deck.
The bar specialises in fine wine, but won’t break the bank. The bar caters for selling wine by the glass with the new Coravin system.
In homes, the kitchen is often the hub of the house and at Touring Club it’s no different, with the bar and kitchen combined in an incredible open space.
Food is light nibbles such as seafood and oysters, however the menu changes and regularly depending on the season.
There’s also an upstairs area with a large table and private fridge, that could be used for private events.

Touring Club has serious clout in the hospitality industry behind it, knowing how to give people a good time.
Founders Dylan Griffith, Rowan Hobbs, Grant Maunder and Bryn Williams merge their skills from brand identity, construction, design hotels through to restaurants and hospitality.
Watch the video below of the Coravin system in action using gas canisters and a needle to suck wine from the bottle, meaning the wine keeps longer allowing Touring Club to serve fine wines at affordable prices by the glass.
Mr Maunder showed us the new bar and explained what it was all about.
“It’s an elemental yet intimate space with an open kitchen and wood burner,” said Mr Maunder.
“It’s about saying we have all travelled and we want to bring the best of everything we have experienced back to our bar to share with people.”
And what about the name? What’s it all about?
“The Touring Club’ is in part inspired by the ‘Touring Club Hotel’ – a legendary hostelry and watering hole in Trelew, Patagonia,” explained Mr Maunder.
“There’ll be a focus on very good wines, with food offerings that will be small plates, locally sourced, seasonal, with a constantly evolving menu.”
Touring Club is on Stanwell Road opposite Penarth library and is currently open Wednesday to Sunday midday till 11pm, with the kitchen open midday to 9pm. The bar caters for walk-ins with no reservations needed.
