VALE Girl's Under-14's completed a remarkable season at the weekend securing the South Wales Girls League Under-14 Title to make it a treble winning season having already lifted the South Wales FA Cup and League Cup.
The girls have put in a fantastic effort throughout the season and secured the league title with a game to spare following a battling 5-3 victory away to their closest rivals Pilcs FC in Pontypool.
Vale went into the game knowing a draw would be enough to secure the league but were given their biggest test of the season against plucky opponents who needed a win to keep their own hopes of beating Vale to the title.
Vale started the game strongly but Pilcs took the lead with a left foot shot to put Vale behind for the first time in a game this season. To their credit they bounced back superbly, Sian Ress drew a great save by the Pilcs goalkeeper before hitting the woodwork.
Finally Vale levelled five minutes before half-time when Aliyah Jama showed great composure in front of the goal firing into the corner. Vale then went in front on the stroke of half-time with a fine team goal.
Jama and Rees combined down the left hand side with the ball finding striker Grace Horrell who turned the defender exquisitely and shot into the corner for a 2-1 lead.
Vale continued to push on early into the second half and went 3-1 ahead following an excellent through ball down the left by Holly Jenkins who found Horrell who went through on goal and calmly slotted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
At 3-1 the game seemed won but credit to Pilcs who fought back valiantly with two goals in three minutes to throw the game wide open.
To their credit, Vale composed themselves and grew stronger from the setback and dominated the final 10 minutes of the game. Horrell grabbed her hat-trick and the teams fourth goal, shooting home after captain, Daisy Connolly's header came back off the bar.
Striker Erin Prynne was then rewarded for her work rate tapping home a fifth goal in the last minute to secure the league.
It has been a successful week for the club following success in the Under-13 league also. Vale Dragons secured a runner-up place in the Premier Division and the Vale Caerau team won the Championship Division in their final match of the season.
In addition the Under-16 girls will contest the League Cup final in the next week to round off the most successful season for the club to date.
